Local Wellness Policy

1. Our Local Wellness Policy  October 1, 2023 Policy Leadership: Our principal will implement and ensure compliance with the policy by leading the review, update, and evaluation of the policy.
2. Our school will invite representatives from staff, parents and students to participate in the development, implementation and review of our written policy.
3. All of our meals meet or exceed current nutrition requirements established under the Healthy Hunger-free Act of 2010.  This policy can be found at www.fns.usda.gov/sfsp/meal-patterns
4. At this date, there are no foods or beverages sold. All food and beverages sold outside of the school meal programs shall meet the USDA Smart Snack standards. https://www.fns.usda.gov/smart-snacks-school-beverage-options
5. Our school encourages foods offered on the school campus meet or exceed the USDA Smart Snacks in School standards, including those provided at celebrations and parties and classroom snacks brought by staff or family members. Non-food celebrations will be promoted.
6. Our school will restrict food and beverage marketing unless those foods meet Smart Snacks guidelines.
7. Our PACEs integrate nutrition education into our math, science, English, social studies, Bible and health curriculum.
8. School nutrition services shall use the Wisconsin Team Nutrition Meal Appeal Self-Assessment to determine ways to improve the school meals environment. School nutrition services shall work on the suggestions for meal room atmosphere and fruit display.
9. Our children and adolescents participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each school day, some at PE class and some at recess.
10. Our school offers a Bike-a-Thon for families each year, and we have an annual track and field day to promote physical activity and wellness.
11. Our school will evaluate compliance with the Wellness Policy no less than once every three years. The assessment will include the extent to which each school is complying with the policy and how the policy compares to a model policy, as established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
12. Our school will actively inform families and the public about the content of and any updates to the policy through the school website and our board meetings.
